For those of you coming by train, we are conveniently located for access to the Amtrak railway station. Amtrak’s southernmost Illinois stop is your gateway to the Shawnee Forest and the land between the Mississippi, Ohio and Wabash rivers.

A finely appointed Arts and Crafts Bungalow, this Circa 1905 home reveals some of the traditional values of the Craftsmanship era, including tongue and groove yellow pine and a Mission Oak staircase. You’re sure to enjoy our hearty, home-style breakfast at this cozy B&B. We feature Kentucky Lake Barkley Lodge red eye gravy for the bold adventurer, and many other regional favorites that are difficult to find. Our B&B offers assistance in the discovery of local Southern Illinois treasures for hikers, bikers, antique collectors and train enthusiasts. Perhaps you may not have time to explore the bluebirds of Panthers Den while you are watching graduation ceremonies at SIU, but you are cordially invited to The Train Inn for a comfortable night’s stay, even if your wagon is an automobile.
Our B&B amenities include King or Queen size beds, bird watching, outdoor hot tub, in-room Cable TV, wireless internet connection, full breakfast with cappuccino, and additional regional activities including the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail. Antiques include original artwork, art deco style and train memorabilia. All bathroom facilities are private. Fishermen and hunters are welcome. The Train Inn Bed and Breakfast permits smoking on the back deck, patio, or covered front porch.
The owner and operator of The Train Inn Bed and Breakfast is Mr. Paul Lewers. Paul is a native of Illinois and has made Southern Illinois his home for the past 36 years. He is a very personable host with a friendly spirit who enjoys providing his guests with a warm and inviting environment for their stay in Southern Illinois. Bed and Breakfast Location – Carbondale, Illinois Near SIU
The Train Inn Bed and Breakfast is located in Carbondale, Illinois, in beautiful Southern Illinois. Situated within Carbondale city limits, it is the ideal location for visiting Southern Illinois University / SIU parents and faculty. This Carbondale accommodation is just a three minute drive to University Mall or downtown shopping areas, many fine restaurants, SIUC functions and sports, theaters, museums, Japanese gardens, farmers market, Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic dome, stately old campus, the historical district, pubs, tennis courts, concerts and other attractions. There are dining delivery services with a wide variety of lunch and dinner menus. A few of these restaurants were even in business when your host arrived in Carbondale in 1973.
The Train Inn Bed and Breakfast is within a stone’s throw of SIU Recreation Center and is perfectly situated for swim meets at the Olympic-sized pool, basketball tournaments and even a high school accounting tournament.
For outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers, our guest house accommodation is ideally located, being only a short drive to many outdoor activity locations. For International Travellers and Those Flying Domestically
If you are coming to Southern Illinois by air, Lambert St. Louis International Airport is an important midwest flight hub and serves several major domestic airlines.
There are several options for getting from Lambert Airport to Carbondale. There are commercial flights from Lambert Airport to Williamson County Regional Airport in Marion, which is 14 miles from The Train Inn. BART is a regional shuttle service with regular transports to and from the airport. BART will pick you up at the airport and bring you straight to our door. BART offers a comfortable ride and their fees are quite reasonable. If you prefer to drive, Lambert has several major car rental services available. The Train Inn is about a 2 hour drive from Lambert.
