The owner and operator of The Train Inn is Mr. Paul Lewers. Paul is a native of Illinois and has made Southern Illinois his home for the past 42 years. He is a very personable host with a friendly spirit who enjoys providing his guests with a warm and inviting environment for their stay in Southern Illinois. Vacation Rental Location – Carbondale, Illinois Near SIU
The Train Inn is located in Carbondale, Illinois, in beautiful Southern Illinois. Situated within Carbondale city limits, it is the ideal location for visiting Southern Illinois University / SIU parents and faculty. This Carbondale accommodation is just a three minute drive to University Mall or downtown shopping areas, many fine restaurants, SIUC functions and sports, theaters, museums, Japanese gardens, farmers market, Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic dome, stately old campus, the historical district, pubs, tennis courts, concerts and other attractions. There are dining delivery services with a wide variety of lunch and dinner menus. A few of these restaurants were even in business when your host arrived in Carbondale in 1973.
The Train Inn is within a stone’s throw of SIU Recreation Center and is perfectly situated for swim meets at the Olympic-sized pool, basketball tournaments and even a high school accounting tournament.

For International Travellers and Those Flying Domestically
If you are coming to Southern Illinois by air, Lambert St. Louis International Airport is an important midwest flight hub and serves several major domestic airlines.
There are several options for getting from Lambert Airport to Carbondale. There are commercial flights from Lambert Airport to Williamson County Regional Airport in Marion, which is 14 miles from The Train Inn. BART is a regional shuttle service with regular transports to and from the airport. BART will pick you up at the airport and bring you straight to our door. BART offers a comfortable ride and their fees are quite reasonable. If you prefer to drive, Lambert has several major car rental services available. The Train Inn is about a 2 hour drive from Lambert.
